Demoing

Phase 1 (of 4) of the recording process is complete.  We have completed the first draft, instrumental demos.   Now we will begin working on vocals, lyrics and re-demo the EP next month, listen to that over Christmas break, RE-demo them in January fully ion the manner they will be recorded and in March we will actually record the album.  We are looking at 5 or 6 songs, and around 35-40 minutes of material.  I restrung all my guitars last night and can’t wait to play again.   Maybe we will post some sort of rehearsal/preproduction video and or pictures soon.  Who knows.  There is so much up in the air and in the works not.  We really couldn’t be more excited to get this to you all.  Wait for it, lads.

Currently listening to: Awful music at work that inspires me to never create music this bad.  Negative reinforcement is never a good thing though, ultimately….

Currently Reading:  The Road by Cormac McCarthy. Post-apocalyptic.  Awesome.  Need I say more?

Comandeering

Did anyone happen to read the article today about the oil tanker over taken my Somalian pirates?  Intense.  Anyways, there may or may not be a few people here on earth curious as to what we have been up to.

Let me take a moment to get you all up to speed:

In April we parted ways with Mat, our old drummer.  We spent all spring and a good portion of summer trying out a slew of drummers.  The four of us had such a hard time finding an addition to our band who would integrate seamlessly, see our vision and be excited and motivated to take ourselves to that place.  We were very privileged to play with many phenomenal musicians.  It was such a learning experience jamming, working, writing, and talking with so many people.  The more we auditioned, the more hard it became to decide on someone.  Joey is a very natural musician and through the course of our audition process we would often rely on him to teach or explain a part or two here or there to the drummer we were playing with.  Eventually we realized it made most sense to become a 4 piece, shift Joey from keys to drums, and “make it work.”

We began work on some new songs.  We finished a song and a half and Joey went to Europe for 2 months.  Since he returned we have finished the first draft of the record so to speak.  All the songs are roughly done.  The frame work is laid out.  We have the vision and can hear the way it is going to unfold.  There is a story and theme for the album and I will give you guys some insight into that world once we finish figuring it out ourselves.

We are having more fun working on this project than ever.  It is nice to have a cool space, everything set up, ready to go, just the way you left with and have the mindset, time and want to really experiment, try things and push our band and selves in ways we haven’t before.  We really want to show the full range of human emotion as beautifully, viscerally, boldly and vividly as possible.

Today was the first full band practice in a while and we really accomplished so much.  Adding layers, texture, rethinking parts and preparing to do the first round of pre-production demos to aide in lyric/vocal writing as well as programming parts and random instrument tracks, production tricks and subtleties.  I will be posting pictures, what we have been working on, what we have been listening to,  things that have been inspiring to us in general.

I have been listening to Copeland: You Are My Sunshine for weeks now.  I will ask everyone what has been their most played recently and relay that info to you all soon.  Enjoy.  Discuss.  Ask Questions.
